Overview
We are a globally distributed organization working on improving equity in science education. As we grapple with accelerating global changes, it is critically important that we train responsible planetary stewards. This needs to be done at all levels and educational settings, from the formal classroom to informal learning environments. Digital technologies are some of the most impactful ways of improving science education universally, when done right. Coupled with project-based learning, game-based learning, place-based learning, and other experiential approaches, we are working to transform science education to better meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Our major projects include: 1) Greenworks, a global environmental stewardship network that brings teachers, students, and communities into a shared system for designing and building real-world solutions together, 2) Agavi, a digital science learning platform for low-resource areas, and 3) Sustainable States, a role-playing and board game for training teachers and students in game-based learning. We also work on experimental projects in science outreach and toursim and talk with science educators via our Global.Science podcast.
Our volunteers (blue icons) are located in Arizona, California, Texas, Arkansas, Michigan, New York, New Jersey (USA), Canada, Brazil, Romania, and India. Our teacher partners (through the Greenworks program) are located in the US Virgin Islands (USA), Brazil, Ukraine, and Indonesia. We have professional partnerships with Blue Marble Space Institute of Science (USA), Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine), Ivan Franko National University of Lviv [Geography and Geology Departments] (Ukraine), Precarpathian Professional College of Forestry and Tourism (Ukraine), and Khairun University (Indonesia).
Annual Reports
Science Voices was founded in 2019 by Dr. Lev Horodyskyj, who spent nearly a decade working on digital astrobiology and sustainability learning at Arizona State University. Science Voices builds on that work by taking it global and working with communities that couldn’t utilize the high concept resources that were developed due to limitations in bandwidth, power, or funds. Prior to his time at ASU, he completed a PhD in geosciences and astrobiology.
Science Voices is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in Arizona, USA.
